people and follow all the hindu and social traditions strictly. They are said to be next to brahmins.
Musukuntha vellalas are land owners and land lords
in this region.Today they live in UK Singapore USA and Gulf states .
There was a proverb in tamil " Kallarum maravarum
kantha agambadiyarum mella vanthu vellalaranayinare" which tells that the other castes want to call themselves as vellalar
or used title pillai as they reach higher status .
Musuguntha vellalars lived as joint family and
strict endogamous . They speak a dialect which is common in higher caste hindus of tamil society. The relationship system
followed is also similar to higher caste hindus.
They are respectable and get services from other
castes like brahmins(priests), vannar(washermen), paraiyar (drummers), ambalakkarar (announcers), pallar( agriculture labors)
etc.,
They are scholars and learned and wise people.
